FREE COMIC BOOK DAY IS MAY 5TH

i will be at Collector's Corner in Baltimore, MD. i am also allowing ross to attend this event with me. so if you are in the area... please stop by! free stuff!!

i love the warm weather. i photoshopped ross into this picture so he could feel like he was there too:

i drew monday's page outside and had my laptop set up out there and everything. i really like the three bottom panels, so much so that i uploaded them to deviantART.

almost time to feed ross! i hope he likes these french fries (i'm trying to switch it up).

I think I'm pregnant
Posted by ross

It's nearing the end of the school year and everything is exploding. On top of that, Kata and Ned have transported me to an undisclosed location where they force me to write all day on a diet of nothing but potatoes. It's completely quiet and the only source of light in this cell is the computer monitor..

Tell me, is it spring yet? If some kind digital soul could record the sound of birds chirping and send it to me via the Internet, I would be so happy. The only joy I have in life is interacting via computers.

Kata told me that this would be an "immersion project," a kind of method-acting setup in which I live out the life of Masayume, our main character. The idea of being a teenaged girl has always appealed to me, but I never thought it would be this reclusive.

changing selves
Posted by ross

I wrote this during the early stages of thinking about the comic: "dreams as not an escape but an exploration of our changing selves." I still feel that although imagination can be an escape, it is also a way of interacting with the world that is greatly under appreciated.

Things are a bit crazy right now, and my sleep schedule is all messed up along with other cycles in my brain, but I feel good and quite happy.

Kata and I have some more talking to do about the next section of the comic, but I have faith that we'll get ourselves together. THANK YOU FOR READING DEAR READERS

end prologue. we wanted to kind of get you a glimpse into what kind of world this is and what kind of things are in it, and mostly, how Masayume began her internship at the Unconscious Archives. just set stuff up i suppose.

so, if you didn't catch on already, Masayume is a volunteer in the controversial Dream Research program. her technology is older than most other volunteers because she joined early on. by volunteering, she is agreeing to uploading her dreams to the database at the Unconscious Archives where they can be accessed by any other volunteer or researcher. the machine she uses is called a Catcher.

ross and i are trying to transfer ideas from our brains onto paper. or into an email. i don't know. ross is busy with school, and i just got a new graphic design job, which i am very happy about, but will be dedicating a lot of time to artistically. hopefully updates will continue to be consistent and weekly.

as for this chapter cover, i hope to ink this and add more and make it look less cacadoodoo and will eventually upload it to deviantART.

a stupid, stupid friend asked me earlier today how Lost works.

"how does the process work, since [ross] does the writing? does he give you a script and say "here, draw this"? or do you two go back and forth on stuff"

i'd say its a very touchy-feely process. we touch on some of the things that we want to do: different ideas we have, as vague as a thought for just one panel, or even getting down to specific dialog. then we feel out how it should happen as it happens, going off a script that we both collaborate on.

you couldn't say that ross does all the writing, or that i do all of the artwork. ross writes the bigger chunk of what we've got, but i contribute and improvise with his approval. same with the art; ross sends me images and adds his own flair to the pages. today's computer screen for example. we always make sure we have each other's approval.

there is your answer... you stupid, stupid, dufus. :D

The Ultimate Toilet Cam
Posted by ross

Being dead is great. I can send scripts to Kata from the past or the future, there's no time and no place so basically I can write all the time. I don't have any grudges against Kata for shooting me in the head. The only thing I miss is human contact, but luckily I can replace that with hiding out in peoples' toilets. It beats all the spy cams in existence.

Instead of listening to records, I can just run along the grooves and hear them inside my head. Everything can be immediately accessed. No technology is superior. All information is at my fingertips. No encryption is strong enough to keep me out.

I know your credit card information, and I'm going to use it to purchase 1,000 sheets, and then cut eyes in them.

sounds like fun! i had an internship once.

i was talking to a co-worker about the comic and she asked "what are you doing here?"

i think what AREN'T i doing is the real question. i'm not doing enough, i think. but when i'm tired of hiding, i just start running.

ross and i actually got to communicate FACE-O-A-FACE-O this morning to discuss today's page at the kitchen table. this is how it went:

THIS IS HOW WE GET IT DONE, ROSS

NED KANE ON GOOGLE
Posted by ross

Now that Kata mentioned Ned Kane on her blog post, he'll definitely be on Google. Just like I predicted, exactly one year ago, from the bowels of my secret lair.

Not only is Ned Kane on Google, but he has won a one-way ticket to my bed. If we had a poll function on this site, I would set up a poll: Who should Ned sleep with? It would totally be me. Kata may be America's Next Top Artist, but can she PLAY THE GUITAR?

The next person to submit fanart will receive a limited edition "Random piece of art/writing/music from Ross' hard drive which would never be released to the public in any other circumstances barring monster hack-attack." And by limited edition, I mean you could potentially email it to all your friends, but seriously, what fun is that?

ross apparently needs to eat some FOOD before he updates. he is walking a VERY FAT LINE with me lately.

sigh. the first time i said that it in actual conversation was pretty hilarious. i wish i could set up that situation over and over again.

in more exciting and hott news, we have our FIRST fanart ever! check it out in the EXTRAS section. we had a little secret contest going for whoever did the first fanart. congratulations to our winner, edward, age 21, of huntingtown, md! edward gets to sleep with the the author of his choosing.

CHOOSE WISELY!

so, send more fanart and stuff! we're almost at 20 pages! that should be some kind of anniversary or something. i'll probably buy ross flowers and take him out to dinner.

and look at this: Satoshi Kon in Washington, DC on April 14!

now watch this trailer to see why i am wetting my pants: Paprika trailer

p.s. i had a wonderful time in florida. <3

Sorry about all these breaks. I was gonna do an "INFOR MATION" page, but I forgot some essential materials at school. Perhaps I'll do one next week, when Kata is back from SUPER SPRING BREAK ADVENTURE 2007!! PS, the keyboard image is based upon this Creative Commons licensed image. Thus, the above image is also licensed under Creative Commons. Everything else is in Public Domain. Kthxbye.

so, i upload the comic at 12:04... but still. more so on time than last week. i usually spend sunday and monday working on the comic, but lately i have been scheduled to work monday nights and my sundays are full of driving to and fro, hither and yon. i feel rushed. but i like getting a page online each week. i feel as long as we get the story across its okay, because my style is kind of crappy caca anyways. "my style"

i love FOOD. good food is so... GOOD!

i'm going to be in florida next monday. camping! i leave the updating in the elongated fingers of rossu. see you on the 19th!

WHY GOD WHY
Posted by ross

I have a paper that I need to write, so tonight I won't bless you with my mind-blowing prose.

I'd direct you somewhere else on the Internets, but there is really no other place you can find writing of this caliber.

Lolz.

Wait, actually, there is:

from New York Times article Stephen Hawking Plans Prelude to the Ride of his Life

"'Life on earth,' he said, 'is at the ever-increasing risk of being wiped out by a disaster, such as sudden global nuclear war, a genetically engineered virus or other dangers we have not yet thought of.'

The image of him floating through the stars in his wheelchair has become a symbol of humanity's restless curiosity and wonder.

Now it seems that the symbol is about the become the real thing, sans wheelchair."

18 year old girl...lost in the woods
Posted by ross

The above is a search query which led someone to lost in the woods. I found it funny so I share it with you, the reading public, which might include the person who used that search term. I hope that this site was able to fulfill whatever strange fetish led you to searching the internet for "18 year old girl lost in the woods." Having been lost before, let me tell you, I do NOT find it sexy. It's almost as nausea-inducing as furry porn.

I've been thinking about creating a Facebook group to let people know when the comic updates. I'm sure a Lost in the Woods Facebook group would fit right in with the FBI virtual recruiting station and digital coalitions promoting college parties and awareness of genocide in Darfur. Maybe we're better off spreading the good word elsewhere.

I wanted to say something about the Jesus Bones, but I've decided to keep mess that out of my creative work because I don't think I can keep a straight face while talking about it.
